The Vitamin D-lemma - Americans aren't getting enough
Your body produces Vitamin D every time the suns UVB rays hit your
skin. That’s why it is also known as the Sunshine
Vitamin.
Go outside and soak up some sun for 15 to 20 minutes. BAM!
You just converted the sun’s rays into a day’s
supply. Seems pretty simple doesn’t it?
But 80% of Americans are lacking enough Vitamin D.
Why is Vitamin D important?
D is not really a vitamin. It is a prohormone. Your
body converts it into active hormones that target over 200 different
genes. That means vitamin D is critical to good health.
Go Outside. Stand in the Sun. A simple recipe for getting enough
Vitamin. Hard to believe 80% of all Americans don’t
get enough.
Why?
We all stay indoors more and when we do go out we slather
ourselves with sunscreen. That’s a great plan to
avoid skin cancer but a terrible one for getting Vitamin D.
And if you are like me, eating chicken livers, sardines,
tuna and drinking lots of milk is not in your daily diet
plan. No help increasing your D this way.
Vitamin D is stored in fat cells. Obesity keeps
the vitamin locked up in fat cells where it can’t be used.
Age also slows your body down. You
can’t convert Vitamin D like you could when you were a kid.
What do I need to do?
Supplement your diet with a quality
Vitamin D3. D3 is a much better choice than Vitamin
D2. Your body will absorb it better.
The secret word is quality. Lots of companies will jump on
the bandwagon when a product is in demand. Not many companies
take the time and do the research to produce a good product.
A good product is one that does what it says it will. It does
it without adding a bunch of artificial flavors and colors.
Supplements don’t need fillers and toxins to make them work.
You only have one body. Why make the effort to improve your
health by taking Vitamin D if you are going to take one full of
unhealthy ingredients. Don’t do more harm than good.
